The Plasma Science & Fusion Center @ MIT (PSFC) is one of the greatest institutions in the teaching of magnetic engineering and inertial fusion. Plasma is the 4th state of matter and its main use is with nuclear fusion. Nuclear fusion is a process where 2 atoms "fuse" and form 1 single atom, releasing enourmous amounts of energy. Plasma and nuclear fusion are key points at the PSFC because nuclear fusion, releasing uncontrollabe amounts of energy, might be able to be contained using plasma. The study at the PSFC is working hard on finding a way to use plasma and nuclear fusion in the future as a safer, more-efficient source of energy.
